National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Awards Saint Agatha School has been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award first in 1985, then again in 2000 and for a third time in 2015, making Saint Agatha the only Catholic School in the Columbus Diocese to have received the honor three times.

 

Art Shows Saint Agatha offers art class to students K-8. Our students expand their imagination by exploring mediums of creative expression in art and craft which includes pottery, painting, papier mache, to name a few. Selective works of art are displayed annually in the Upper Arlington Elementary and Middle School Arts Exhibit. Exceptional middle school works are displayed at the Bishop Watterson High School Feeder School Arts Show. In 2016 Annie Martinsek, class of 2017, won the Best of Show blue ribbon award, the top award. 

 

Battle of the Books (BOB) Saint Agatha School’s BOB team consists of seventh and eighth grade students who are dedicated to reading a total of 84 selective books during the school year. Each student reads an average of 14 books, and is expected to comprehend author’s name and title by questions of setting and character titles. Most of the diocesan schools participate. Saint Agatha School earned second place in 2015 and 2016.  

 

Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication Regional Spelling Bee Saint Agatha Middle School is proud to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the regional finalist competition. The winner of the bee moves on to the National Spelling Bee. We are proud of our two most recent regional participants: Julie Jacko in 2016 and Jean Luc La Pierre in 2017. 

 

Geography Bee The Geography Bee is an annual competition organized by the National Geographic Society, designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world. Students in grades 5-8 compete in a school level bee that gives them the  opportunity to take a qualifying test for the State Geography Bee. Saint Agatha is proud of Arman Mastropietro (2017) and Gordon Petrie (2018) for their participation in multiple State Geography Bees.

 

The Ohio Academy of Science - State Science Day Saint Agatha School has earned the Harold C. Shaw Outstanding School Award four times, most recently in 2015. This award is earned by schools that have at least four students entered and 80% earn “Superior” rating. We also earned the award in 1997, 1999 and 2004.

 

The Ohio Academy of Science - District Science Day Saint Agatha School has earned the Central District Science Day School Award seven times, most recently in 2017. This award is earned by schools of which 80% of students receive a “Superior” rating. We also earned the award in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014.  

 

National History Day (NHD) - National Participants Students conduct historical research that leads to imaginative exhibits, documentaries, original performances, websites and scholarly papers. NHD reinforces classroom teaching by rewarding students of all abilities for their scholarship, individual initiative and cooperative learning. 

 

In 2017, Jack Klingler ranked 8th at Nationals for his project on Dr. Seuss. 

 

In the past 15 years, Saint Agatha had four projects named as Alternates to Nationals: Christopher Haas 2004, Peter Merkle and Andrew Fenlon 2008, Grace Beckman and Lily Kreber 2012, and John Kaelber and Max Pesta 2016.

 

Lizzie Jackson 2011 advanced to Nationals for her exhibit on “The Little Rock Nine” and Carolyn Neutzling and Logan Paeglis 2015 advanced to Nationals for their website on Susan B. Anthony.
